What is edge in football?

In football, the term "edge" typically refers to the area around the outside of the offensive line where the running back or receiver may run in order to gain yards. "Edge" can also refer to the technique used by defensive players to rush the quarterback or disrupt the running play by taking a path around the outside of the offensive line. This technique involves quickly and effectively getting past the offensive tackle and/or tight end, and can often result in a sack or tackle for loss. Players who excel at playing the edge on defense are often referred to as "edge rushers" or "edge defenders."
